After 56% of members rejected the offer, the union launched an exam and dissertation marking boycott putting student results at risk.

Stacey Josling, who is in her final year of her psychology degree at the University of Durham, told Radio 4’s Today programme: “I’m supposed to start out a job in July and this marking boycott is meant to be occurring till September. My primary fear is whether or not I’m going to have the ability to begin that job in July.

“The university won’t tell us exactly what’s happening which is very stressful because we can’t plan for the future.”
