French Open star slams rival’s ‘ridiculous’ £63k wonderful that would ‘cease’ careers

Gaston hit headlines after he was slapped with an enormous wonderful for throwing a ball out of his pocket mid-rally, in an assumed try to get the purpose stopped on a let. The world No 109 then had his wonderful halved underneath the situation that he didn’t obtain one other infraction for the following 12 months.

His fellow Frenchman Paire has now hit out on the tour for billing him with such a big wonderful, calling on the tennis excursions to make punishments replicate the profession earnings of lower-ranked professionals. “It’s ridiculous that Hugo Gaston has been fined 144,000. It was reduced 72,000, but challengers will just stop their career in that case,” the 34-year-old mentioned after dropping his opening match on the French Open.

“Maybe he took 2,000 in the tournament, and in Madrid he took a bit more money. But he won $16,000, and he has to pay $142,000. I don’t understand the system. I think that you need to do things according to what you earn. You can’t ask for more money than what the player is going to earn. Otherwise, why play tennis?”

Paire famous that Gaston had earned lower than he was billed this season. And the fiery Frenchman admitted that even he put a lid on a few of his antics to keep away from receiving huge fines since his rating dropped and compelled him to play usually on the ATP Challenger Tour.

“Everything that he has won in prize money since the beginning of the year is below his fine,” he continued. “So, yes, what he did is not good, but sometimes in matches you have bad reactions. I think that it’s silly, and it’s a shame to put such big fines.

“So I’m lucky because this year I haven’t had a lot of warnings. Normally I have more, and it would have cost me a lot. I have to be careful. I’m a Challenger now, so I’m careful.” The former world No 18 referred to as for a brand new system as he remarked that Gaston’s wonderful was the equvalent of shopping for property.

He added: “So it’s a shame. I think that we need to find a system because even for Challengers, the fines are really high. He took 20,000 at the beginning of the year as a Challenger, and now he has 140,000 fine. It makes me laugh, but it’s sad. It’s a lot of money.

“That’s an apartment, and that’s what’s crazy. To say that for a ball that fell out of a pocket, okay, he dropped it on purpose and to have hit the umpire’s chair, well, he shouldn’t do it, but it shouldn’t be fined that much.”

The ATP launched an announcement after halving Gaston’s wonderful and confirmed that the invoice was so excessive as a result of it was his fourth violation of the season. “Following an incident during his second round in Madrid, Hugo Gaston was fined €144,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct,” it learn.

“Under ATP 2023 regulations, fines increase by 100% for each new offence during the same season. This was Gaston’s fourth unsportsmanlike conduct offence in the 2023 season. Following an appeal, the fine was reduced to €72,000, a reduction subject to certain conditions including no further offence by Gaston.”
