In an intelligence replace, the Ministry of Defence mentioned Ukrainian forces had made small advances from the village of Krasnohorivka, close to Donetsk metropolis.
It marks one of many first occasions since Russia’s 2022 invasion that Ukraine’s forces have recaptured territory held by Russia since its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The bridges service one of two main road supply routes between Crimea and Kherson, and the strike forced a temporary closure.
“The temporary closure of the route caused vital Russian logistics convoys to take at least 50 per cent longer to reach the front via alternative routes,” said the MoD.
“Reports indicate that Russian authorities almost certainly constructed a pontoon bridge replacement crossing within 24 hours of the attack; it is highly likely that crossings are limited to military traffic only.
“The speed with which an alternate crossing was constructed indicates how vital this route is to the Russian military efforts in occupied Ukraine.”
It comes as the death toll rose to eight from a Russian attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk.
Ukraine’s emergency services said on Wednesday that 56 people were also injured.
Two Russian missiles struck Kramatorsk on Tuesday, hitting a crowded restaurant in the city centre. Three people were pulled from the rubble, the emergency services added.
“Rescuers are working through the rubble of the destroyed building and searching for people who are probably still under it,” officers of the emergency providers mentioned on the Telegram messaging app
