All singing, dancing and lasting – kids rule in New King single
Fun, catchy and lasting, the ‘New King’ single composed by London- based mostly kids’s writer and instructor Banji Alexander is a must-listen, capturing the King’s Coronation from a baby’s perspective in a singular musical memento.
The vibrant combine options string and horn sections harking back to 70s disco/soul blended with a pop hook, hip hop groove and funk bass line. Banji’s soulful vocal weaves into these of his younger, all singing and dancing protégés creating a really well timed hit.
“Having a new monarch ascend to the throne is such a historic moment, it made me want to mark that in a fun and engaging way for my primary aged audience. It is also the first song to be taken from my next book, which is a musical, also titled, ‘New King’,” says Banji.
During the final seven months he has visited 75 faculties giving younger folks a voice by asking them: “If you were king from today, how would you celebrate?”.
Those conversations sparked the thought for his tune and gathering a gaggle of from these he had met they recorded his Coronation tune and fashioned a collective now often known as Banji’s Class – for them a really trendy fairy story come true.
