Andrew Malkinson: £1m compensation ‘not enough’ after miscarriage of justice

man who spent 17 years in jail for a rape he didn’t commit has stated £1 million is “not enough” to compensate him for his ordeal.
Andrew Malkinson criticised the utmost quantity of compensation payable beneath the miscarriage of justice compensation scheme – £1 million for greater than 10 years’ imprisonment – the Daily Mail reported on Monday.

“I don’t think any amount would be enough, but it should be significantly higher than it is.”

“I spent a lot of the time being terrified.
“You know when you are on the bus and there is one lunatic who wants to sit beside you, and everyone tries to avoid him? It’s like that, but you can’t get off the bus. There was a murder on the wing.
“There were people who hanged themselves. You feel you could easily be stabbed. Someone could come in at any moment and shank you.”
He reportedly stated he struggles with how one can take care of ladies since his launch.
On whether or not he feels he may ever have a relationship once more, Mr Malkinson stated: “I don’t know if I’m too damaged, because I am damaged.
“It would be nice to think that I could, but I can’t see it yet.”
Mr Malkinson was wrongly discovered responsible of raping a girl in Greater Manchester in 2003 and the following 12 months was jailed for all times with a minimal time period of seven years.
