Italian man crushed to demise beneath hundreds of wheels of laborious cheese

An Italian man was crushed to demise beneath hundreds of enormous wheels of a parmesan-style laborious cheese every weighing round 40kg. 

Giacomo Chiapparini, 75, was killed when a 10-metre-high shelf broke in his warehouse within the Lombardy area on Sunday night.

This resulted in a domino impact leading to hundreds of wheels of Grana Padano cheese falling, native firefighters mentioned.

Rescuers “had to move the cheese and the shelves by hand” in a 12-hour operation, based on firefighter Antonio Dusi.

The warehouse, within the city of Romano di Lombardia south of Bergamo, contained 25,000 wheels of Grana Padano.

Mr Chiapparini had been inspecting the ripening wheels when he was killed.

His firm has been producing Grana Padano since 2006.

One line of investigation into the accident is {that a} machine that rotates the wheels of cheese – a process that matures the dairy product – could have moved and prompted the collapse.
