Big fireplace engulfs Harvester restaurant in Littlehampton
Fire crews had been scrambled to the scene round 9am on Thursday, after a blaze broke out within the kitchen space.
Video from the scene confirmed an enormous plume of black smoke rising excessive into the air, because the West Sussex Fire and Rescue urged residents to maintain doorways and home windows shut.
The brigade stated in an replace round 11.15am that its presence had been escalated, and there have been 12 fireplace engines on the scene together with two aerial ladder platforms, and two water carriers.
Footage confirmed the constructing engulfed in flames.
Sue Lovell, who lives in a flat close by the Windmill Harvester, advised the Standard: “I saw the smoke initially with fire crews arriving and it just spread rapidly out of control.”
Littlehampton Harvester Fire | tenth August 2023
By round 11am, your entire roof and majority of the constructing’s first ground appeared to have been destroyed.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue space supervisor Gary Ball stated: “We attended a call this morning at 9am – a significant fire in the kitchen space of the Harvester, which has unfortunately spread to the roof space.
“When we arrived the building had been fully evacuated, and there have been no injuries on scene due to the fire today.
“We have a number of resources here from many emergency services, all working hard to try and put the fire out and protect neighbouring buildings.”
Mr Ball stated defending close by buildings was the brigade’s precedence, and added the close by Windmill Entertainment Centre – which contains a theatre and cinemas, and adjoins the Harvester buildings – “is being well protected”.
