Maritime sector requires £2bn to decarbonise ‘world-leading’ trade

ritain’s maritime trade is looking for a giant improve in Government funding to assist the UK paved the way in decarbonising the sector.
Maritime UK, which represents the trade, has used the beginning of London International Shipping Week on Monday to ask the Government to extend its annual funding for the sector to £2 billion, matched by contributions from the trade.
Chris Shirling-Rooke, Maritime UK’s CEO, stated the cash would assist the trade decarbonise by creating inexperienced fuels, port infrastructure and new forms of know-how to scale back carbon emissions.

He stated: “So often we see decarbonisation as it’s a real problem, it’s a real challenge, we’re going to have to change.
“We do have to change, but it’s a real opportunity. We have the natural resources, we have the technology, we still have in maritime a world-leading industry, so it makes quite a strong argument to Government.”
