Speaking on the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Musk stated that U.S. sanctions on Russia imply the Starlink satellite tv for pc connection close to Crimea couldn’t be turned on for a Ukrainian navy operation with out permission from the U.S. president

“The sanctions include Crimea, and we are not allowed to turn on the connection to a sanctioned country without explicit government approval,” stated Musk.

He claimed that the Ukrainian authorities had requested for the Starlink connection to be turned on “in the middle of the night” for “a Pearl Harbor-type attack on the Russian fleet in Sevastopol”.

Musk stated that Ukraine was “asking us to take part in a major act of war”. He stated that “if I had received a presidential directive to turn it on, I would have done so”.

Ukraine eventually launched an attack on Crimea’s Sevastopol shipyard yesterday (Wednesday, September, 13) utilizing Storm Shadow cruise missiles from the UK. The strike reportedly destroyed a Russian submarine, with Russia admitting that the strikes induced “damage” to 2 ships.

However, Musk’s protestations haven’t appeased his critics. And yesterday (Wednesday, September 13) he was challenged by Sky News who stated Musk “admitted thwarting a Ukrainian assault on Russia“.

Sky’s reporter harangued requested Musk, as he walked to an awaiting automobile. The reporter requested: “Has your ignorance and ego price Ukrainian lives, sir? A Ukrainian official says you will have enabled Vladimir Putin as an aggressor. What do you say to that?”

Vladimir Putin calls you ‘excellent’, Mr Musk. Do you admire that? What would you name Mr Putin?”

A stony-faced Musk ignored the Sky reporter’s questions.

Previously, Musk has stated he cannot win in relation to permitting Ukraine Starlink entry. At the tip of January – responding to claims he was a “war criminal” for permitting Starlink for use by Ukrainian armed forces – he tweeted: “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. SpaceX Starlink has become the connectivity backbone of Ukraine all the way up to the front lines. This is the damned if you do part.

“However, we’re not permitting Starlink for use for long-range drone strikes. This is the damned in case you don’t half.”

Just a few months earlier, in October 2022, the Russian authorities not directly warned Musk that it may shoot down his satellites. Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy head of the Russian delegation warned that “quasi-civilian infrastructure may become a legitimate target for retaliation”.
