Dixie Chicks founding member Laura Lynch dies in automobile crash aged 65

Laura Lynch, one of many founding members of the Dixie Chicks, has died in a automobile crash aged 65.

Her cousin Mick Lynch informed showbiz news outlet TMZ she was driving exterior El Paso, Texas, on the time of the collision on Friday.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that Lynch was pronounced useless on the scene following the head-on crash.

The driver of the opposite car was taken to hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries” and there’s an ongoing investigation into the collision, a report from the division mentioned.

Bassist Lynch shaped the American nation group together with sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, and Robin Lynn Macy in 1989.

The band – now made up of Natalie Maines, Strayer and Maguire – changed their name to The Chicks in 2020 following criticism of the usage of the phrase Dixie, which regularly refers back to the southern states of the US that broke away round 1860 to kind the brand new Confederate States of America.

They mentioned in a publish on X: “Laura was a vivid mild…her infectious power and humour gave a spark to the early days of our band.

“Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band.

“Her plain abilities helped propel us past busking on road corners to phases all throughout Texas and the mid-West.

“Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this sad time.”

Before Lynch left, the band launched three albums collectively – their 1990 debut Thank Heavens For Dale Evans, 1992’s Little Ol’ Cowgirl and 1993’s Shouldn’t A Told You That.

The group obtained its industrial breakthrough in 1998 with their fourth album Wide Open Spaces, with Maines main the vocals.

It was adopted up by 1999’s Fly, 2002’s Home, 2006’s Take The Long Way – which all went to primary within the US album charts.

The Chicks supported Bruce Springsteen at BST Hyde Park in London in July.
