Glenda Jackson’s remaining film with Michael Caine is true story of D-Day veteran

It’s been 48 years since Sir Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson starred reverse one another in The Romantic Englishwoman.

And earlier than she died immediately, the previous Labour MP reunited together with her fellow Oscar-winner within the upcoming The Great Escaper.

The new film relies on the true story of Bernard Jordan, who in 2014 escaped his care dwelling to attend the seventieth anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France.

Sir Michael, 90, performs the real-life D-Day veteran with the late Jackson portraying his spouse Irene.

The film shall be directed by An Ideal Husband’s Oliver Parker with a script penned by Made in Dagenham’s William Ivory.

The Great Escaper’s synopsis reads: “It was a story that captured the imagination of the world – Bernie seemed to embody the defiant, ‘can-do’ spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing.

“But after all, it wasn’t the entire story. It was the story all of us inform ourselves to make struggle and previous age bearable. The bitter-sweet script explores the fact with wit and a really huge coronary heart.”

“Bernie’s journey, spanning a mere 48 hours, additionally marked the fruits of his 60-year marriage to Rene (Jackson) – the story celebrates their love with out sentimentality and with an eye fixed to the teachings we would all be taught from the Greatest Generation.”

According to Radio Times, Parker beforehand mentioned: “No one can resist a script that makes folks each chortle and cry – I beloved Billy’s writing and the story itself, so inspirational and so shifting, appeared to talk to our instances and our want for heroes on a human scale, whether or not folks like Bernard Jordan or our docs and nurses.

“And now to have Michael and Glenda – two iconic actors – agree to honour this story with their brilliance, it’s the cherry on the cake!”

The Great Escaper opens in UK cinemas this October.
