Ryan Tubridy: RTE has ‘no plans’ to convey again Ireland’s largest TV star after scandal over wage

Tubridy – Ireland’s largest TV star – has been on the centre of an issue over the below declaration of his wage by €345,000 (£295,000) between 2017 and 2022.

The revelation sparked a backlash towards the 50-year-old presenter – already the Irish broadcaster’s highest-paid star with a wage of €440,000 (£375,500) in 2021 – as a result of they got here at a time at which the cash-strapped broadcaster was making cuts elsewhere.

RTE director-general Kevin Bakhurst says Tubridy won’t return to the channel after belief between the events had “broken down”.

Mr Bakhurst stated: “We went into negotiations with Ryan in good religion and within the hopes of reaching an settlement that may see Ryan return to his RTE Radio 1 present.

“I have decided not to continue with negotiations and, as such, there are no plans for Ryan to return to his presenting role with RTE at this time.

“Despite having agreed a number of the fundamentals, together with charge, length and hours, regretfully, it’s my view that belief between the events has damaged down.”

Tubridy fronted Ireland’s Late Late present for 14 years.
