Jeremy Corbyn has been backed by members of the Islington North Constituency Labour Party.

A movement thanking the veteran left-winger for his “commitment and service to the people” and insisting it’s as much as native members to decide on their MP was handed by 98 % tonight.

Sixty members backed the movement on the month-to-month basic assembly, with one abstaining.

The movement mentioned: “This CLP would like to thank our sitting MP J Corbyn for his commitment and service to the people, and want to express that it should be our democratic right to select our MP.”

Mr Corbyn reportedly thanked members for the movement, including: “I love my job and I want to carry on doing it.”

Labour’s governing physique in March voted to dam Mr Corbyn, who misplaced the whip in 2020 following an antisemitism row, from standing as a candidate for the celebration on the subsequent basic election.

The celebration’s National Executive Committee accredited a movement from Labour chief Sir Keir Starmer to not endorse his predecessor.

At the time, Mr Corbyn branded the transfer as a “shameful attack on party democracy”.

He added: “I will not be intimidated into silence. I have spent my life fighting for a fairer society on behalf of the people of Islington North, and I have no intention of stopping now.”

Meanwhile, the Islington North Constituency Labour Party mentioned in March it “rejects the NEC’s undue interference” in who it picks as an MP.

The group added: “We believe in the democratic right of all constituency parties to choose their prospective parliamentary candidate.”

Mr Corbyn led Labour to defeats in 2017 and 2019 however stays in style with the left of the celebration and within the London seat he has represented since 1983.

The veteran left-winger was suspended as a Labour MP in 2020 over his response to the damning Equality and Human Rights Commission report on antisemitism within the celebration and at present sits as an unbiased within the Commons.
