Tyson Fury contradicts himself with admission over monetary motivation
Tyson Fury has admitted that cash is now the one factor that motivates him in his boxing profession – utterly contradicting his earlier quotes that he was within the sport to outline his legacy. The Gypsy King is at the moment making ready for the most important combat of his profession to this point in a unification bout in opposition to Oleksandr Usyk – seen as a 50/50 combat in Saudi Arabia.
A Fury win would in the end safe his legacy because the unquestioned biggest heavyweight of his period, whereas being within the dialog of maybe being the best of all time.
Previously, that is one thing that has motivated Fury – and why he remained within the sport after a number of retirement proposals. However, this not seems to be the case. Speaking at a media day forward of his combat with Usyk, Fury admitted that cash alone is what motivates him.
He advised reporters: “If it was belts that drive me I’d go to Matalan and buy 50 belts. It’s the money that drives me, not the belts. I’ve been very open in my whole career telling you all it’s only about the coins and I’ll stand by it today… So for me to say to you all, ‘Oh, I wanna win 20 belts, it’s not about the money,’ it ain’t true, is it? It ain’t true.”
This utterly goes in opposition to what he had stated after defeating Dillian Whyte in 2022, when he had threatened to retire.
After that win, Fury advised reporters: “There’s a lot of money to be earned, but for me, I come from f*** all. It has never been about money. I am not a money person. I do not care about money. I drive around in an ’07 Passat.”
Despite quite a few retirement makes an attempt, Fury has now acknowledged that he may combat 10 extra occasions earlier than retiring – doing so in Saudi Arabia the place he’s given bigger pay packages.
