Hodgson fires warning to Guaita over ‘refusal to play’ for Crystal Palace
Guaita, 36, misplaced his first-team place to Sam Johnstone in the direction of the tip of final season after Hodgson returned to Selhurst Park to succeed Patrick Vieira in March.
The veteran had been first alternative since becoming a member of the Eagles from Getafe on a free switch in 2018, making over 150 appearances, however now needs to return to the Spanish membership this summer time.
He has a 12 months remaining on his contract and was not a part of the Palace squad to journey to the US for pre-season.
“He [Sam Johnstone] is the only choice at the moment because Guaita is disenchanted with the club and has said he would like to move on,” Hodgson advised the Scandinavian broadcaster Viaplay. “He’s refused to play in our games so far. A complication is that he has a year’s contract.
“It’s as much as the membership to resolve, not him. He’s made it clear to all people he does not need to be right here and compete with Sam Johnstone. I can not bodily make Guaita play however it’s not sure the membership will settle for his refusal to play they usually’ll let him go.”
