Man Utd star Heaton clashes with Yorke over Andre Onana as Erik ten Hag warned
Manchester United’s Tom Heaton and membership legend Dwight Yorke have very reverse opinions on new signing Andre Onana. The Cameroon worldwide was signed from Inter Milan in a deal price £47million to switch David de Gea, who departed as a free agent.
Erik ten Hag was the driving pressure in pushing to reunite with the 27-year-old, having labored with him at Ajax. Onana was seen as the best candidate to be the brand new United No 1, along with his capacity to construct out from the again a really enticing attribute.
Heaton has been filled with reward for Onana since his arrival, telling MUTV: “he has been great. He is a real good lad and a great character. I have really enjoyed the style of his play, I think he will suit this manager and how he wants to play really well.
“Hopefully I can learn a bit from him. I know I am getting older but I am always trying to develop and evolve. Hopefully, I can offer him something about Premier League football and the requirements and the different challenges. He and I have got on really well so far and I am looking forward to working with him and competing with him.”
Such high praise after arriving just weeks ago sends out a very positive message about Onana, but Yorke isn’t convinced by his credentials and has suggested that it was a mistake to refuse to extend De Gea’s contract earlier this summer. He told OLBG: “We should’ve let Andre Onana go to Chelsea and Man United should’ve kept David de Gea and promoted Dean Henderson instead.
“I’ve said before that Man United need to be careful what they wish for with losing David de Gea. For all the good De Gea has done for Man United, the way his career ended was really bad. I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt Man United now they’ve bought Andre Onana. Be careful what you wish for. De Gea is the Golden Glove winner, a high-profile player who has made mistakes, like the rest of us. De Gea winning the Golden Glove is like winning the Golden Boot and being the top scorer at the club but still getting replaced by the football club. That does not resonate well with me.
“In my opinion, Onana is not as good as De Gea and people need to watch him very carefully. I’ve seen Onana before, the Premier League is a different kettle of fish with how fast the game is and how often you are pressured. Onana tries to be an outfield player rather than a goalkeeper sometimes. I will be watching this guy very closely, and the people who have criticised De Gea and wanted him to leave will probably be the ones who will be calling him to come back.”
It stays to be seen whether or not Yorke’s feedback turn into true and United are left red-faced sooner or later. Despite Heaton remaining on the membership, the Red Devils are available in the market for one more goalkeeper to supply cowl for Onana and doubtlessly push him to enhance additional.
