Tiger Woods cut up from Nike defined as PGA Tour star pens emotional assertion

Announcing the choice on social media, Woods wrote in an announcement: “Over 27 years in the past, I used to be lucky to begin a partnership with one of the vital iconic manufacturers on the planet. The days since have been stuffed with so many wonderful moments and reminiscences, if I began naming them, I might go on ceaselessly.

“[Former Nike CEO] Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.

“People will ask if there’s one other chapter. Yes, there will definitely be one other chapter. See you in LA! Tiger.”

Woods’ decision to walk away from the swoosh comes after his most recent deal with the brand came to an end at the end of last year.

The American was initially signed by Nike as an amateur back in 1996, penning a contract worth $40 million over five years. His most recent deal came back in 2013, where the 82-time PGA Tour winner signed a deal worth a reported $200 million over 10 years.

Woods’ future with Nike had been up in the air ever since his return to golf at the 2022 Masters, just over a year after suffering career-threatening injuries in a car accident in Los Angeles. Arriving at Augusta, the 15-time major champion left golf fans in shock, after he swapped out his iconic Nike shoes for a pair by Footjoy.

At the time, Woods revealed the reason behind his shoe change came due to comfort for his recovering right leg.“I have very limited mobility now,” he admitted on the time.
