Alcaraz beats De Minaur in Queen’s closing to assert first title on grass
arlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur within the closing at Queen’s to win his first title on grass.
The Spaniard gained 6-4, 6-4 and his triumph means he regains his world No1 rating and would be the prime seed at Wimbledon forward of Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz, who was taking part in solely his third grass-court match, will now set his sights on a successful at Wimbledon.
The match on the All England Club begins on July 3.
Alcaraz stated: “It helps a lot, to be top seed at Wimbledon. It’s amazing. I started the tournament not really well, I had to adapt my movement a bit on grass. But it’s been an amazing week and ending with a lot of energy and a high so coming to Wimbledon like this is good.
“It means a lot to have my name on the trophy. I’ve watched this tournament since I started playing tennis. It is special for me to play here, so many legends have won here and seeing my name on the trophy surrounded by the great champions is amazing for me.”
