Alex de Minaur needs to offer Katie Boulter ‘slightly little bit of c**p’

Alex de Minaur might have grown keen on Britain by means of his relationship with girlfriend Katie Boulter, however he’s nonetheless decided for Australia to emerge victorious on the Davis Cup so he can rub it in his associate’s face.

“There’s years and years of history of rivalry between the two nations,” the Australian world No 12 stated. “With Katie, I’ve got to spend a little bit more time here in the UK and I’ve been able to get to know a couple of the Brits a little bit better.

“We at all times give one another slightly little bit of crap if our nation wins. It’s at all times a fantastic aggressive spirit between us.

“Katie’s shown me around. I’ve found a lot of spots that I quite enjoy so it’s been great, especially when the weather’s good. There’s a lot of similarities with Australia.

“A giant factor for me is espresso. They love their espresso right here as properly, the breakfast locations are sort of the identical vibe. And one factor that I did not have rising up in Australia or Spain is the countryside. I’ve grown actually keen on the greenery.”

Group B of the Davis Cup holds plenty of talented players, and De Minaur is the highest-ranked player there. The Australian has reached a career-high ranking of 12 after making the US Open last 16 this year and hopes to continue this performance into the Davis Cup.  

He explained: “I’ve performed some nice tennis during the last couple of months and I’m actually proud of the place my degree is at. It’s going to be an excellent check this group stage, loads of superb gamers. Hopefully I can carry all of it collectively and carry out.”

Australia narrowly missed out on a victory last year, losing to Canada in the final, and De Minaur believes that his team can go all the way this year. 

He added: “That’s the dream. Last 12 months gave us loads of starvation and fireplace and need to essentially be capable to accomplish this as a crew. I believe we confirmed what a crew can do after they have one another’s again as a result of on rating we weren’t presupposed to be a contender. We got here collectively and we confirmed what it meant to play for Australia.

“We’ll do everything we can to do that but it starts here, we’ve got a very tough group and we’ve got to try and get out of here alive.”
