The winner will go up against either Alexander Zverev or defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals, with Novak Djokovic likely to be awaiting them in the final.

The other quarter-final will see Ben Shelton face Frances Tiafoe for a place in the last four, with Medvedev set to keep a close eye on what will be the highest-profile clash between two American players in quite some time.

“Great guys, identical era, enjoying nice,” he said. “Ben managed to win [against] Tommy [Paul], so he is there, the third one. It’s going to be an ideal ambiance, an ideal match, at the very least one American within the semis. Let’s see.”
