Raducanu given recommendation by King with Britain ‘fortunate’ to have tennis star
Billie Jean King says Emma Raducanu must be taught “not to listen to criticism” if she hopes to achieve her true potential within the sport. The Tennis legend believes Britain are “lucky” to have such an thrilling younger expertise and hopes the 20-year-old can overcome her damage woes – and get again to doing what she does greatest.
Raducanu has been tormented by accidents over the past couple of years and not too long ago missed Wimbledon after present process surgical procedure on each her wrists and her ankle. “I just know it’s gotten tough for her, I just hope that she’ll be alright because it’s tough,” King instructed Sky Sports. “If you want to be a professional athlete, it’s tough.
“And you have to be taught to not take heed to criticism, you bought to be taught all this stuff and that is why I say do not take something personally as a result of when you be taught that, you are okay. And if individuals are bullying you on social media you have to cease taking a look at it or get some solution to end up, it is actually necessary.
“But I hope she continues to play, I hope she gets over injuries and comes back and really does well in tennis and particularly in the US Open because she’s won that one now, and the way she won it is still amazing, so I hope she keeps playing.”
The 39-time Grand Slam winner believes Raducanu is a “great representative for women’s tennis” and says Britain is “lucky” to have her.
King added: “I remember giving her the [US Open] trophy and she speaks so well, she’s such a great representative. She speaks fluently in Mandarin, she probably can speak Romanian and English and the way she speaks, she’s just a great communicator. So I think Britain is really lucky to have her. And I think she’s fantastic.”
