A person in his 70s stays in hospital after being critically injured in an assault by two canines – each of which have been later shot lifeless by police.

The pensioner was set upon by the animals in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, on Friday morning, Sussex Police stated.

A 29-year-old man from Bognor Regis has been arrested on suspicion of being in command of a canine dangerously uncontrolled.

Chief Superintendent Alex Geldart stated: “We acknowledge the distressing nature of this incident and want to guarantee the group that there isn’t any additional danger related to it.

“The victim’s family are receiving support by specialist officers.

Police are urging anybody with cellular or CCTV footage to contact them.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
