Brianna Ghey: Teenager denies murdering 16-year-old

One of two youngsters accused of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey has pleaded not responsible.

Brianna, a transgender woman from Birchwood in Warrington, Cheshire, died after she was discovered with stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February.

Two 16-year-olds – a boy from Leigh in Greater Manchester and a lady from Warrington – had been charged along with her homicide. They can’t be named as a consequence of their age.

One of them entered a plea at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester on Thursday. The different defendant didn’t enter a plea.

Reporting restrictions stop the identification of which of the defendants entered the plea.

Parents of each youngsters, who appeared individually within the dock, had been in courtroom for the listening to.

Mrs Justice Yip instructed the courtroom: “It’s a case in which I know emotions are likely to run high, that’s very understandable. There has been a lot of publicity about it already.

“We’re going to make it possible for this case proceeds in a peaceful method in courtroom in a approach that’s going to be solely truthful to all people.”

The case was adjourned till 4 October.

The defendants are each being held in safe lodging.

A trial has been scheduled to start on 27 November and is anticipated to final three weeks at Manchester Crown Court.
