British volunteer, 22, ‘killed in action’ in Ukraine

he Foreign Office has confirmed the loss of life of a British man who, his household stated, had been combating in Ukraine.
Samuel Newey, 22, from Solihull within the West Midlands, was “killed in action” on Wednesday in japanese Ukraine, his brother, Daniel Newey, stated in a social media publish.
He wrote on Facebook: “I cannot put into words how broken I feel.
“I also cannot emphasise how proud I am of my little brother.
“He’d just turned 21 when he decided to answer the call and travel to Ukraine to push back against Russian imperialism.
“Sam, you gave your life for people you never knew and acted with courage, morality and honour.
“Not only are you my little brother, but you’re an exceptional man, a good soldier and one of the bravest people I ever had the privilege of knowing.
“Thank you so much for being part of my life for these 22 years. I love you always brother.”
A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed his loss of life, saying: “We are providing support to the family of a British man following his death in Ukraine.”
Mr Newey appeared in court docket in February 2020 after he and his father, Paul Newey, had been charged with terrorism offences for allegedly illegally aiding Daniel, who was a British volunteer combating in opposition to Islamic State in Syria.
Charges had been dropped in opposition to the pair following a Crown Prosecution Service evaluate in July that very same yr.
