Cash marking coronation of Charles III enter circulation

People may have an opportunity to “find a piece of history” of their change from immediately. 

Almost 5 million 50p cash marking the coronation of King Charles III will begin showing in circulation.

Featuring a design by Royal Mint coin designer Natasha Jenkins, the cash are the second 50ps to enter circulation bearing the monarch’s official coin portrait.

The design for the tails face of the cash options Westminster Abbey and the King’s official cypher, representing him being topped as King.

The heads aspect will function His Majesty’s official portrait which was unveiled in September. It’s designed by sculptor Martin Jennings and is personally permitted by the King.

Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative cash on the Royal Mint, mentioned: “This is a special moment for the nation, as members of the public will have the opportunity to find a piece of history in their change.

“We anticipate the coronation 50p cash can be extremely wanted amongst coin collectors and members of the general public eager to personal a bit of British historical past.”

The cash can be out there through the Post Office and UK financial institution branches.

The first memorial 50 pence entered circulation in December, marking the transition from the late Queen to the King.

Earlier this 12 months, the Royal Mint unveiled a commemorative coin vary marking the coronation. Collectors from 89 international locations bought the cash instantly from the Royal Mint.

UK cash bearing the effigy of the late Queen will stay authorized tender and in lively circulation.

Historically it has been commonplace for cash that includes the effigies of various monarchs to co-circulate. The Mint mentioned this ensures a clean transition, with minimal environmental impression and price.
