Combat hero Trevor Coult ‘offended’ after homeless veteran dies of hypothermia

Combat hero Trevor Coult MC says he has been left “angry” after a homeless RAF veteran reportedly died of hypothermia whereas sleeping tough.

Coult was awarded the Military Cross for bravery after being ambushed by insurgents in Baghdad. Acting because the high cowl sentry in a convoy car, his quick-thinking and determination to return hearth on attackers meant two different automobiles might retreat.

He is then mentioned to have assisted with a stalled car by offering cowl for it. But now, talking to GB News, he has hit out after veteran Malcolm Livingstone died whereas ready for lodging.

The veteran was a pallbearer for Princess Diana’s coffin at her funeral. However, he died from hypothermia whereas sleeping tough after a mix-up which left him with out emergency lodging, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Coult has now branded the variety of homeless veterans a “travesty”. He identified the Government’s willingness to deal with “asylum seekers” in military barracks as certainly one of his causes for concern.

Speaking on GB News, he mentioned: “I’m angry that this has happened. Back in November 2021, the Government put out an emergency pandemic crisis where they wanted to get all rough sleepers off the streets.

“Would that not have been the proper time to search out out in the event that they had been veterans or not? It would have been the proper time to jot down down their military service quantity, the place they served, and we’d have had a correct indication of what number of homeless veterans now we have. But we didn’t — we ignored it.”

Presenter Patrick Christy told audiences the country has “acquired lodging” and “acquired cash” to re-home veterans but instead leave them in favour for those arriving from other nations.

Coult revealed he had contacted his local MP, Suffolk Coastal representative Thérèse Coffey, to raise concerns about homeless veterans in army barracks.

He explained: “I wrote to my MP a few years in the past and I mentioned about utilising an empty navy barracks for homeless veterans which might get them off the road. We might usher in veterans who cooked and cleaned, and train them trades.

“Get them back on to getting benefits and getting them off the streets.”

Coult claimed he had a reply from the MoD saying it didn’t personal the barracks so couldn’t home homeless veterans. He added: “They seem to find these empty barracks for asylum seekers and they exploit and destroy our veterans.

“There are hundreds of them on the market nonetheless ready in compensation, and the Government is just too heavy-handed to assist them out.  It’s a travesty.”

Napier Barracks in Folkestone, Kent, has been used to house asylum seekers since 2020. Originally a “contingency” association, its non permanent function was prolonged by one other 5 years in September 2021.
