Family and pals of West Ham gamers attacked by rival followers at finish of semi-final
Family and pals of West Ham gamers had been attacked by rival supporters after a match within the Netherlands.
AZ Alkmaar followers broke by a fence and attacked guests sat in a reserved part following the ultimate whistle within the Europa Conference League semi-final.
Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill, who was sat near the place the chaos unfolded, stated AZ Alkmaar followers who had been wearing black and had their faces coated began attacking a piece of the stadium the place the relations of West Ham gamers had been.
A brawl ensued – and several other West Ham gamers, together with captain Declan Rice, tried to intervene.
Police and stewards had been on the scene to stop additional confrontation and calm was restored 10 minutes later.
West Ham supervisor David Moyes, whose 85-year-old father was within the focused part of the stadium, admitted that his gamers had been indignant following the incident.
Cotterill stated: “West Ham gamers who had been on the pitch celebrating after the ultimate whistle noticed what was happening and tried to return in and assist their relations, others had been making an attempt to carry them again.
“But three or four of the players did jump over and go into the area and try and help their families.
“At that time stewards moved in, I need to say it took a while.
“Police moved in in riot gear as well, and by then it really was chaos. You can understand the anxiousness and the concern of the West Ham players.”
Cotterill stated it does not seem any accidents had been suffered on account of the dysfunction.
Moyes instructed BT Sport after the sport: “We’ll need to wait for the dust to settle to see what it is but the biggest problem is that is the area where the players have all their families in, friends and family.
“That is the place the issue got here and a number of gamers had been getting indignant as a result of they could not get to see in the event that they had been okay. But look, I do not know. We’ll have to attend and ask the officers what actually occurred.”
West Ham reached their first main European remaining since 1976 with their win over AZ Alkmaar.
They gained 1 – 0 on Thursday to win the tie 3 – 1 on combination.
They will face Italian facet Fiorentina within the remaining.
