Mild plane ‘crash lands’ on seashore in Porthcawl

A light-weight plane has come down on a seashore close to Bridgend.

Pictures from the scene present the plane alongside the shore close to Porthcawl pavilion.

According to eyewitness studies, the engine began “spluttering” earlier than the craft “crash landed”.

The pilot was seen by paramedics following the incident and the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that one individual was taken to hospital for additional remedy.

Another witness stated the pilot was being attended to by members of the general public “but was walking”.

An RNLI craft might be seen attending the incident with lifeboats from Porthcawl and Port Talbot despatched to the incident.

The emergency companies response was coordinated by the coastguard, they confirmed.

An individual made their approach “out of the plane and onto dry land”, a spokesperson stated.

He was later taken into the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service.

The alarm was raised at round 9.20am on Tuesday morning.

“The coastguard search and rescue helicopter from St Athan was also alerted, as well as South Wales Police and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service,” the coastguard spokesperson added.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson stated they have been referred to as to studies of an incident close to the Seabank Hotel “shortly before 9.30am”.

“We sent one emergency ambulance and a duty operational manager to the scene, where we were supported by our Hazardous Area Response Team and the Coastguard,” the spokesperson added.

“One person was taken to Princess of Wales Hospital for further treatment.”

RNLI lifeboats have been concerned to make sure the craft was safe and wouldn’t “become a danger to navigation”.

Chris Page from Porthcawl RNLI stated: “RNLI volunteer crews never quite know what to expect when the call for help comes.

“We are educated to cope with each eventuality, however have been extremely relieved to reach on scene to search out the pilot was capable of be safely recovered.

“This was a real multi-agency effort between the fire service, the Coastguard and the RNLI.”
