Man admits stabbing spouse to demise whereas their younger son slept upstairs

A person has admitted to stabbing his spouse to demise whereas their son slept upstairs on the second day of his trial.

Conrad Iyayi was on trial for the homicide of his spouse, Kathryn, often known as Katy Harris, at Derby Crown Court, and had already admitted to manslaughter.

But simply two days into the listening to, on Wednesday, Iyayi, 46, admitted to murdering his spouse, Katy Harris by stabbing her seven instances within the chest within the early hours of February 6 final 12 months at their residence in Oak Crescent, Littleover, Derby.

He will likely be sentenced on the identical courtroom on August 18.

Iyayi attacked a semi-naked Ms Harris within the kitchen of their Oak Close semi-detached property in what was labelled “a brutal and needless killing” in February, 2022.

Their 11-year-old son Theo was asleep upstairs on the property throughout the assault.

Informing the courtroom of Mr Iyayi’s choice to confess to the homicide, his barrister, Amjad Malik KC, mentioned: “Yesterday afternoon, after court ended, I went to see Mr Iyayi and he indicated what he wished to do, and this morning I have gone through the process with him.

“Mr Iyayi needs to plead responsible to homicide and in these circumstances, the jury has been stored ready, however for good cause.”

Adjourning the sentencing until August 18, Judge Shaun Smith KC said: “Mr Iyayi, I do not know whether or not or not you possibly can or can’t keep in mind what occurred that night.

“I know from my own experience that very often, even though someone has done something really bad, they say they can’t remember and people are sceptical. If you can remember what you did or why you did it obviously that’s going to help but if you can’t you can’t, it’s as simple as that.”
