Man arrested after two cops attacked with a knife

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after two cops have been attacked with a knife within the Old Trafford space of Manchester.

The incident got here after an 18-year-old was detained on suspicion of hazard driving on Wood Road at round 4pm on Wednesday, July 26. Police say they tried to cease a moped within the space.

The car was stated to have been driving erratically. It was later concerned in a crash on the junction of Wood Road and Upper Chorlton Road.

Reports from the scene recommend 9 police automobiles, an air ambulance, and a sophisticated paramedic attended the realm. While a part of Wood Road was cordoned off within the aftermath.

Police say the 2 officers have been responding to the crash when one other man is reported to have approached and assaulted them with a knife. Police say the 26-year-old was “being treated as possibly unconnected to the collision”.

A Taser was used throughout his arrest. The man was taken to hospital afterwards.

Superintendent Cara Charlesworth, from Greater Manchester Police, stated: “This was a serious assault on two officers who were simply doing their jobs and trying to keep members of the public safe.

“Thankfully the injuries inflicted on our officers are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing and I commend them for their bravery in bringing the incident to a swift and safe conclusion without risk to the public. One has required hospital treatment and we wish him a speedy recovery.

“I can assure you that we are treating this incident with due severity and whilst I am pleased we have a man in custody, this investigation is in its early days and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances.”
