Man charged with stalking MP and impersonating police

A person has been charged with stalking an MP in Westminster.

Sean Parry, 44, will seem in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday following the incident on Wednesday.

He was additionally charged with impersonating a police officer.

The police stated an investigation was launched after a member of the House of Commons made a report back to the parliamentary liaison and investigation group on Wednesday 14 June following “an incident involving the MP and another man in the Westminster area earlier that day”.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: “Fast-time enquiries were carried out and officers on deployment in Westminster on Thursday, 15 June identified and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

“He was taken into police custody and charged on Friday 16 June.”

Chief Superintendent Elisabeth Chapple, who leads the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, said: “We take the protection and safety of MPs extraordinarily significantly and our officers have acted swiftly to determine, arrest and cost a person in relation to this incident after it was reported to us. I’d prefer to thank the groups concerned for his or her quick motion and exhausting work on this case.

“More broadly, we continue to work with MPs and their offices, the parliamentary security department and with local police forces through the Operation Bridger network to provide MPs and their staff safety and security advice.”

Parry will stay in custody till his court docket look.

The incident comes after a person was charged with assaulting former Health Secretary Matt Hancock following an incident at Westminster Station in January.
