Mason Greenwood leaves Manchester United in mortgage transfer to Spanish membership Getafe

Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United on switch deadline day, after an tried rape cost in opposition to the footballer was dropped earlier this 12 months.

Greenwood will transfer to Spain to play for Madrid-based membership Getafe.

Manchester United stated in an announcement: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.

“The transfer permits Greenwood to start to rebuild his profession away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

Last month, the United announced Greenwood would not play for them again.

In an announcement, the membership stated: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.

“It has subsequently been mutually agreed that it will be most applicable for him to take action away from Old Trafford, and we’ll now work with Mason to attain that final result.”

The forward was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022. He was initially arrested in January that year.

In February 2023 the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had a “obligation to cease the case” following the “withdrawal of key witnesses and new materials that got here to gentle”.

Those developments meant there was “now not a practical prospect of conviction” and led to the decision by the CPS to discontinue prosecution and drop the charges against Greenwood.

After United announced the outcome of its internal investigation, Greenwood said: “I totally settle for I made errors… and I take my share of duty.”

He has always denied any criminal charges.
