Met Office points 24-hour storm warning for thousands and thousands of Brits throughout half of UK

The Met Office has issued an pressing 24-hour thurnderstorm warning for thousands and thousands of Britons for lightning and rain sweeping into the nation this weekend.

The climate company mentioned a yellow warning can be in place from midnight till midnight on Sunday June 18 with “Heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday will bring a chance of disruption to parts of England and Wales.”

The thunderstorms the Met Office mentioned may carry “sudden flooding” to some areas and there was a “chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost”.

An announcement accompanying the warning mentioned: “Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes happen, there’s a probability of delays and a few cancellations to coach and bus companies.”

A roasting summer so far has triggered the first hose pipe ban in the country across Kent and Sussex due to a record demand for drinking water, South East Water bosses claimed. Areas of the region have been left with little or no water this week amid the hot weather, forcing schools to shut and residents to get drinking water from bottled water stations.

A plea to use only essential water has stretched from Haywards Heath in West Sussex to Whitstable in Kent. The temporary ban on hosepipes and sprinklers will come in on June 26.

South East Water said despite providing an extra 120 million litres of water a day, demand in June has broken records, including from the Covid lockdown heatwave.
