Police officer in harmful driving probe after boys killed in horror crash
A police officer is being criminally investigated for harmful driving after following two youngsters in a van earlier than they each died in an e-bike crash in Cardiff.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed the probe into the South Wales police officer after the deaths within the Ely neighbourhood of the Welsh capital in May.
Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, died on the night of Monday May 22 after they crashed on a Sur-Ron bike minutes after CCTV captured them being adopted by a police van.
Tensions between locals and police on the scene led to a riot, throughout which dozens of officers have been injured, property was broken and automobiles set alight.
The IOPC mentioned the motive force of the police van, an officer with South Wales Police, has been instructed they’re being criminally investigated for harmful driving after beforehand being served with a gross misconduct discover.
The watchdog mentioned a call over potential disciplinary proceedings and any referral to the Crown Prosecution Service could be made on the finish of the probe.
IOPC director David Ford mentioned: “Our independent investigation is progressing well and I want to again thank the local community for the support provided to our investigation, including through the sharing of CCTV evidence.”
