Some 187,000 individuals are due state pension back payments after they have been underpaid due to a problem with their National Insurance (NI) record.

The problem relates largely to girls of their 60s and 70s who could also be lacking Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) from their NI report.

HMRC is poring over NI information to establish anybody who could have been entitled to HRP between 1978 and 2010 and who doesn't have it on their report.

The division will write to anybody who matches the factors with particulars of how they'll declare on-line.

The Government estimates some 187,000 individuals are due a median of £5,000 in again funds.

Some 210,000 individuals have been underpaid a complete of £1.3billion in state pension funds, in keeping with the National Audit Office.
