A former Olympic determine skater has died aged 31 after a seven-vehicle crash.

Alexandra Paul, 31, was in a automobile together with her child when a lorry collided into them and 5 different autos that have been stopped in a line, Canadian police mentioned.

The crash occurred in Melancthon Township, Ontario, on Tuesday.

Skate Canada mentioned Paul "was not only an accomplished athlete but also a true role model for aspiring skaters, demonstrating the values of resilience, perseverance, and sportsmanlike conduct".

It added: "Our thoughts are with Alexandra's family, friends, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her during this difficult time."

Paul and her husband and skating companion Mitchell Islam gained a number of worldwide medals, claimed three Canadian championship medals and competed on the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She retired in 2016.
