Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could make a press release signing larger than the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes the acquisition of Ilkay Gundogan could be a serious piece of enterprise by the Gunners.

Gundogan has simply captained Manchester City to their fifth Premier League title in six seasons. The German has completed the marketing campaign in fantastic type himself, netting braces within the wins over Leeds and Everton.

But there may be uncertainty over his future. Gundogan's contract expires this summer time and he has rejected City's presents of renewal thus far.

City have been solely ready to offer the 32-year-old a one-year deal. Arsenal are among the many golf equipment linked with signing him on a free switch, as are Barcelona.

A latest report from The Times claims City at the moment are set to chill out their stance and supply Gundogan a two-year contract. But till he places pen to paper, Arsenal are nonetheless keeping track of his state of affairs.

Arteta has already signed two gamers from former membership City, with Jesus' and Zinchenko's arrivals taking part in a serious half of their title push this season. But McCoist says Gundogan could be a fair higher signing than them each.

He stated on talkSPORT, as reported by The Boot Room: "What a statement that would be. It’s a bigger statement than Jesus, it’s a bigger statement than Zinchenko for me.

"You’re getting a superb participant and the age issue doesn’t actually come into it these days for 32-year-olds, they’ve stored themselves meticulously match. There are nice professionals and he’s definitely that.

"The only negative is you’ve not got a sell-on, but that’s balanced by the fact you might be getting him on a free transfer. He’s a winner and he’s a big occasion player, that’s exactly what he is. Everyone will be after him."

Gundogan was an unused substitute for Sunday's 1-0 win over Chelsea. After the match, Jamie Redknapp claimed City ought to do all they'll to maintain him.

He stated on Sky Sports: "I’d certainly keep him - he’s a big game player. He’s got an influence in that dressing room.

"If I’ve ever seen a participant in my life that's destined to turn out to be an awesome supervisor, it’s him. He’s the supervisor on the pitch and acquired a lot class about him.

"Why on earth would you want him to go? He’s still such an important player. Barcelona would come in and everybody would want him, but I think he’s just perfect here. The end of the season always seems to be when he turns up more."
