Coordinator Elaine Oakey stated: “It’s inspirational to watch them.

“They have all been on a difficult journey due to limb loss. They have learnt to build resilience and they bring that to the pitch.

“We are hoping they will go to the World Cup in November. To see them come off prosthetics and get on their crutches is amazing.

“The skill level of the older girls is extremely high. We already have an adult male team, but we wanted to produce an all-female seven-a-side squad that can compete too.”

Shelbee Clarke, 28, Jeevna Notay, 4, Scarlett Reynolds, six, and Marni Voak, 16, are amongst gamers aged two to twenty-eight who attend coaching camps organised by the England Amputee Football Association. The most up-to-date was at Reaseheath College, Cheshire.

Shelbee, from Bedford, had most cancers in her pelvis at 18. She stated: “I was due to go to the US on a football scholarship just before I was diagnosed and it crushed my dreams.

“So to be able to play football now is amazing. I’m living my dream again.”
