"I did ask the ref if it was cardiac. I'm sure there are more professional people out here, but she said it wasn't cardiac so that's when I realised the person will probably be OK.

"But yeah, everyone within the stadium ought to take the category. It took 90 minutes. I booked it on the flight from Wimbledon, it is actually informative."

Speaking to reporters afterwards she revealed that she wanted to take the course after witnessing her father perform CPR on a person who did not survive. She was also prompted to learn CPR when fellow US tennis star and world number four Jessica Pegula saw her sister Kelly perform CPR on their mother last year.

"I used to be like, 'OK, I must do it.' I discovered a lot," Gauff mentioned. "I hoped I would not need to do something at this time, but when it got here to that time, at the least I discovered that."
