Comedian Lorna Rose Treen was voted the winner of the Dave Funniest Joke of the Fringe award together with her pun: “I started dating a zookeeper - but it turned out he was a cheetah,” taken from her present, Skin Pigeon at Pleasance Courtyard.

A panel of 10 comedy specialists nominated their record of the ten greatest jokes which had been then put to a vote of 2000 individuals.

Treen’s joke topped the record, with 44% of these surveyed saying it was the annual competition’s funniest.

The prize is now in its 14th 12 months and former winners of the award embody Masai Graham, Ken Cheng, Olaf Falafel, Tim Vine, Rob Auton, Stewart Francis, Zoe Lyons and Nick Helm.

The award goals to recognise each established and up-and-coming comics.

Jokes are listed with no reference to the title of the comic that means it's judged purely on the humour of the joke itself.
