Protesters have tried to dam a lorry eradicating rubble from the positioning the place the well-known Crooked House pub as soon as stood.

The landmark constructing, often called Britain's 'wonkiest' pub with its sloping partitions and ground, was gutted by a suspected arson attack earlier this month.

But after equipment from a specialist demolition and waste administration agency was moved to the scene, campaigners started to take direct motion.

A sit-down protest was held on the lane resulting in the now-demolished constructing, with some campaigners trying to witness the work happening.

Workers on the web site in Himley - which is close to Dudley within the West Midlands - advised reporters they had been starting to "clean" and retailer bricks, and assess whether or not the rubble accommodates asbestos.

South Staffordshire Council has confirmed it's partaking with the positioning's homeowners to find out the character of the works happening.

One of those that turned as much as protest, Jane Baker, stated: "We're doing this, and all of the individuals who have arrived immediately, as a result of we care very a lot about our heritage, our historical past and the Crooked House.

The 59-year-old added: "We just want her back where she was. It's affected all of us, far and wide. We just want it rebuilt - by hook or by crook."

Staffordshire Police attended the protest "as a precaution and to reassure the community".

The drive stated: "We recognise the strength of local feeling following the loss of a significant cultural landmark.
