A farmer is on the hunt for gray squirrels for use in burgers at his pop-up restaurant.

Gareth Wyn Jones, who has racked up extra 1,000,000 followers throughout his social media accounts - together with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok - might be serving squirrel burgers at an occasion close to Bangor, North Wales, subsequent month.

Despite being a eager cook dinner, the pop-up will mark Mr Jones's first time working a restaurant.

The Welsh Game Fair will happen on the Faenol property on the weekend of 9 and 10 September.

Mr Jones stated gray squirrels had contributed to a decline within the native purple squirrel inhabitants.

"Grey squirrels are not native to this country," stated Mr Jones, who farms close to Llanfairfechan.

"They have been launched from America and so they have led to the decline of our personal purple squirrel inhabitants.

"Squirrel meat is like any other wild food, eating them is like foraging for anything else."

Mr Jones, whose household has been farming the land at Ty'n Llwyfan in Conwy for 375 years, stated squirrels have been a "fantastic wild food".

"All I need now is an alternative butcher to supply the grey squirrels and it'll be ready, steady, cook."

'Tantalise tastebuds'

Red squirrels are a legally protected species and it's unlawful to deliberately kill, injure or disturb them.

But gray squirrels are classed as an invasive species and have restricted authorized safety.

In the US, most states classify squirrels as recreation animals that may be killed for meals.

The Welsh Game Fair follows comparable occasions The Game Fair and the Scottish Game Fair.
