A bus carrying largely aged individuals has collided with a lorry in a rural a part of the Canadian province of Manitoba, killing 15 individuals and injuring 10 extra, police have mentioned.

Rob Hill, commanding officer of the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police, mentioned the bus was carrying 25 individuals and authorities are deploying all their assets within the province to the scene.

Ten individuals have been taken to hospitals.

Assistant Commissioner Hill instructed a news convention that "sadly, it is a day in Manitoba and throughout Canada that will probably be remembered as one among tragedy and unbelievable unhappiness".

TV broadcasters aired pictures of what appeared like a big van or bus smouldering in a ditch close to a transport truck with a smashed engine on a street.

The pavement was affected by particles - damaged glass, a big bumper and what appeared like a strolling help.

Seven blue and yellow tarpaulins have been stretched out.

Ambulance helicopters have been dispatched to the scene from Winnipeg and Regina.

"The news from Carberry, Manitoba is incredibly tragic," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.

"I'm sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I'm keeping the injured in my thoughts. I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling - but Canadians are here for you."

Carberry is 105 miles west of Manitoba's capital of Winnipeg.

The crash introduced again reminiscences of the 2018 bus crash within the neighbouring province of Saskatchewan that killed 16 individuals from the Humboldt Broncos minor league hockey group.
