Footage has emerged of a gaggle of off-duty cops with none protecting gear tackling a knife-wielding man.

The Metropolitan Police officers have been having a drink at a bar in Elephant Park, south London, final July after they noticed a violent altercation occurring close by.

Two teams of males have been preventing and it escalated to the purpose the place one man was struck over the pinnacle and a canine was set on him.

A 20-year-old man, Joseph Jiminez, then repeatedly tried to assault the opposite man with a big knife.

The officers ran in direction of Jiminez, who threw the knife at them and tried to flee, however he was tackled by them after which arrested.

Jiminez, of Dalston in east London, appeared at Croydon Crown Court having pleaded responsible to affray and possession of a bladed article, Scotland Yard mentioned.

He was sentenced to eight months at a younger offenders' institute.

Commenting on the officers' bravery, Detective Inspector Jon Summers mentioned that they had "finished a long, hard week at work and were enjoying some well-earned downtime together" when the occasions unfolded.

DI Summers mentioned they didn't have any type of protecting gear on them corresponding to batons, police radios or Pava spray (an incapacitant just like pepper spray).

He added: "Still they intervened, working tactically together in coordinating their approach to close off the suspect's possible escape route, and swiftly arrested him.

"The heroism proven by these officers is nothing wanting distinctive. They positioned themselves at actual danger of significant harm as a way to stop severe hurt and to apprehend an offender.

"It is actions such as these that demonstrate the true heart and soul of the Met. They are a credit to themselves, the unit and MPS as a whole."

Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, lead for policing in Southwark and Lambeth, mentioned if the staff had not intervened, a member of the general public might have been significantly or fatally injured.

CS Adjei-Addoh mentioned: "On seeing the spontaneous intervention of the off-duty officers, all other protagonists fled the scene and a large-scale public disorder incident was averted.

"We are extremely pleased with them."
