heresa May’s former chief of workers has been chosen to battle Matt Hancock’s seat on the subsequent normal election.
Nick Timothy, a key adviser to the previous prime minister, was confirmed because the Tory parliamentary candidate for the constituency on Sunday night.
Mr Hancock, the previous well being secretary, at the moment represents the constituency as an unbiased after having the the Tory whip eliminated in November when he agreed to seem on ITV actuality programme I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
The transfer drew the ire of some members of his native Conservative affiliation, with Mr Hancock as a consequence of stand down on the subsequent normal election.
Mr Timothy is believed to have robust household ties to the constituency, which Mr Hancock received in 2019 with a 23,000 vote majority.
Local Conservative councillor Lance Stanbury welcomed the number of Mr Timothy, who stays a distinguished voice in Westminster circles and within the media.
“Delighted, absolutely delighted that Nick has been selected to fight for West Suffolk,” he informed the PA news company.
“He gave an excellent presentation today and is clearly all over the policy and understands all the issues for West Suffolk and I think will make a great candidate.”
Another native Conservative, who did wish to give their identify, informed PA that the affiliation “do not want a career politician”.
They mentioned that Mr Timothy “has a good focus on the area, a lot of his family live here and he knows the area well”.
Chair of the West Suffolk Conservative Association Rachel Hood mentioned it had been a “rigorous, open and transparent process”.
“We had a very high calibre shortlist of candidates and we are very grateful to everybody who put themselves forward for selection,” she added.
