France's highest administrative jurisdiction mentioned Thursday the nation's soccer federation is entitled to ban headscarves in matches.

The Council of State issued its ruling after a collective of headscarf-wearing soccer gamers referred to as “Les Hijabeuses” — the phrase hijab refers back to the scarf — campaigned in opposition to the ban and launched authorized motion.

The French soccer federation bans ladies from sporting headscarves in official matches, in addition to at competitions it organises. It's not according to the suggestions of soccer governing physique FIFA, which authorises gamers to compete at worldwide stage with headscarves.

The Council of State mentioned sports activities federations “may impose on their players an obligation to wear neutral clothing during sporting competitions and events, in order to guarantee the smooth running of matches and prevent clashes or confrontation. It considers that the ban imposed by the FFF is appropriate and proportionate.”
