The Empire Cinemas chain has entered administration, resulting in the lack of 150 jobs and the closure of six cinemas.

Half of the 12 cinemas within the group are being shut.

The areas which were closed with quick impact are:

• Bishop's Stortford• Catterick Garrison• Sunderland​​​​​​​• Swindon​​​​​​​• Walthamstow• Wigan

Sites positioned in Birmingham, Clydebank, High Wycombe, Ipswich and Sutton, and the 2 Tivoli websites in Bath and Cheltenham, will stay open because the directors search a purchaser.

The monetary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation and the price of dwelling disaster have been blamed for the closures.
