American star Coco Gauff could have had her possibilities of working with Rick Macci bolstered after Emma Radacanu underwent surgical procedure that would rule her out for the rest of the marketing campaign. Gauff is alleged to have been involved with Macci, with the chance of working with the coach and comply with within the footsteps of Serena Williams.

Macci had spoken on a couple of events about how he want to work with Radacanu, although the Brit’s season seems to have been delivered to an abrupt conclusion after saying that she had undergone surgical procedure.

The 2021 US Open champion informed her followers on social media that she was set to have ‘minor procedures’ on each of her arms, while additionally having a separate operation on her ankle in an try and resolve all of her recurring issues.

Speaking to i about Radacanu, Macci mentioned: “I’ve never met her, I would love to work with this young lady. I could help her mentally, I know I could get this girl back on track. Her life has changed, but that doesn’t mean she has to change. Everything has changed around her, but it’s still her playing tennis. I don’t know her.

"Is she still that hungry, still that competitive? These are the questions that are going to be asked a lot. I can’t answer that question, but it has to be about one thing, anybody, anytime, anywhere: a love to compete, and by the way, if I compete well, there’s candy at the end of that."

With Radacanu now ruled out for at least a few months, and thus her Grand Slam season appearing to be over for 2023, Macci could turn his attention to working with fellow American Gauff. The 19-year-old is still emerging as a top talent within the sport, though there is clear potential for her to improve and add to her three career titles.

Speaking on the 'Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe' podcast, John McEnroe confirmed that he was told that talks were going on between the pair, explaining: “Nobody better [than Rick Macci] at breaking down the technical aspects of the game.

"According to him, he's been in touch with Coco's father about possibly spending some time to obviously try to fix that forehand. Because we all know the forehand swing and the technique on the forehead is very shaky. And Rick said to me, if he could spend a solid amount of time with her, he thinks she can win multiple multiple majors because right now it's not solid enough off the forehead that he believes she can do it at the moment.”
