Hotel supervisor Sarah Archer, 35, was driving dwelling on July 30 when she was hit head-on by a campervan travelling at 60mph on the A890.

Ms Archer had simply picked up her automobile from its MOT and her companion Innes Watson, 38, was following in one other automobile.

Mr Watson watched in horror because the accident unfolded. It wasn’t till he took a better look that he realised his companion's automobile had been hit.

When he discovered her on the scene, he was shocked by what he noticed and heard.

Ms Archer’s Vauxhall had suffered catastrophic harm, her automobile had a smashed windscreen and a severely crumpled entrance finish.

Mr Watson advised the Daily Record: "I couldn't quite see what was happening when I first pulled up. There were a lot of people there and someone had called the emergency services.

"But then I realised one of many automobile's was Sarah's. I might see how dangerous the wreckage was and my first thought was that she could be useless.

"Then I saw her lying on the ground. She was in a bad way, and she was screaming, but I only felt relief because I knew she was alive."

He added: "I stayed by her side, but I kept her looking at her injuries. Time just seemed to stand still while we waited for help to arrive.”

It was at this point that Ms Archer made a heartbreaking statement.

Mr Watson said: "Then at one level Sarah stated: 'I'm actually sorry that you will see me die'. It was a hellish expertise."

Following the accident, Ms Archer was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital where she was treated for shattered kneecaps, two broken wrists, a broken right foot, broken ribs, and multiple broken fingers.

Speaking about the accident, Ms Archer said: "I got here to and checked out my arms. They have been utterly mangled.

“But I could hear hissing coming from the car so I somehow managed to undo my seatbelt and get out.

"As soon as I stood up, I felt my knees break. I just collapsed to the ground. Then all I could feel was pain."

“My wrists were manipulated during surgery but I've been told I may have to get them fused which means I won't be able to use my hands and won't be able to write."

Ms Aracher added: "It's life-changing and the doctors told me it's a miracle I survived.”

In an announcement, a Police Scotland spokesperson stated: "We received a report of a crash involving a van and a car on the A890 near Auchtertyre around 2.30pm on Sunday, 30 July.

"Two individuals have been taken to hospital for remedy. A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in reference to a highway site visitors offence. He is because of seem at Inverness Sheriff Court at a later date."
