A Jack Russell has been rescued after plunging 60m (196ft) down a waterfall. 

Louis plunged down the Grey Mare's Tail in Dumfries and Galloway at about 2.45pm on Sunday.

The waterfall is among the highest within the UK.

Despite falling the total peak of the waterfall, the canine appeared properly aside from a slight limp.

Around 15 members of the volunteer-run Moffat Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) went to the scene after the canine's proprietor alerted police.

The staff arrange a rope system to decrease a single staff member with a specialised Lyon animal rescue bag as soon as they noticed Louis in one of many decrease swimming pools.

The canine was positioned into the bag and introduced again to the automobile park utilizing the rope system and rescue tools designed particularly for accessing the decrease swimming pools of Grey Mare's Tail.

A Moffat MRT spokesman stated: "Louis was pulled out of the bottom of the waterfall alive and was very pleased to be reunited with his owner.

"The owner did the right thing contacting the police and so mountain rescue to ensure the search and rescue was carried out in the safest way possible.
